Tigers Nab Game One Versus Caps

The Tigers battled their way to a 2-0 road win Saturday night in game one of the Eastlink North Playoffs versus the Caps. Campbellton opened the scoring  with 1:15 left in the first period on a skilled finish by Dawson Stairs.  From the half-boards in the Tigers’ zone,  Sam Dow chipped the puck to Dylan Coffey who quickly sailed a pass ahead to Stairs at the Caps’ blueline. As the puck slid into the zone, Stairs hustled in, completely deked out a defender, skated in front of the net and backhanded the puck past Summerside’s goalie, Dominik Tmej’s blocker. This turned out to be the game winner. Less than a minute later, with the Caps shorthanded, the Tigers got some insurance when Drew Toner finished off a sharp give-and-go play with Pascal Valcourt. Also picking up an assist on the play was Pierre-Luc Lurette. Tristan Gray was brilliant in the Tigers’ net stopping thirty-three shots for the shut-out win. Game two of the series will be Tuesday night in Campbellton. Stairs was the game’s third star, Tmej, was second and Gray was first game star.

The teams will meet again for game two on Tuesday in Campbellton where the Tigers are hoping to see another large, boisterous and supportive home crowd. Tickets for that game and game four on Saturday can be purchased at the Civic Center box office from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekends and from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on weekdays.
