History

The Campbellton Tigers are a Junior “A” ice hockey team based in Campbellton, New Brunswick, Canada. The Tigers play in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League. The team plays their home games at the Campbellton Memorial Civic Center.

Originally founded in 1996 as the Restigouche River Rats the team was changed its name two years later to the Campbellton Tigers. In 2005 the team changed its name to the Restigouche Tigers for another three-year period before making the change back to the Campbellton Tigers.

The Tigers have won league championships in 1998 and 2004.

Hockey tradition in Campbellon and Northern New Brunswick is rich in hockey history. Before becoming a Junior A Team, the Campbellton Tigers were a Senior Hockey Team that began in 1924 to 1990 and played in various leagues, including the North Shore Senior Hockey League.The Campbellton Tigers became the first team to win three Hardy Cup championships, emblematic of Canadian intermediate A and Senior AA hockey supremacy.
