The Campbellton Tigers Hockey Club are excited to announce the hiring of new Assistant Coach, James Sanford of Moncton, New Brunswick.
James brings a wealth of hockey experience to his new position. Originally a 1st round (11th overall) selection of the Victoriaville Tigres of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, James played 3 ½ seasons with the Moncton Wildcats where he was as an Assistant Captain. During his time in Moncton, he was named Defenseman of the Year and concluded his Major Junior career with the franchise all-time leading points total for defencemen. James also went on to play with Hockey Canada’s Under 18 team before signing with the Montreal Canadiens in 2004.
He played professional for next 11 seasons including with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Milwaukee Admirals, and Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. He also spent time in the ECHL with the Utah Grizzlies and the Peoria Rivermen where he was named to the ECHL All-Star game. Upon completion of his playing career, James joined the coaching ranks and most recently served as Head Coach with the Sydney Joneljim Cougars Major Bantam Club for the past three seasons.
In describing his new role, James stated “I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with a great organization in the Campbellton Tigers! I’m also excited to have the chance to work with the talented players as well as with Head Coach, Sandy McCarthy! Campbellton is a beautiful area and I can’t wait to get started!”
Head Coach, Sandy McCarthy, added “ James brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that will undoubtedly benefit our Tiger players! James believes in maintaining strong communication at all times and his open and honest approach will very helpful in developing the young men in the Tigers organization!

Les Tigres sont heureux d’annoncer l’embauche d’un nouvel entraîneur adjoint, James Sanford de Moncton, Nouveau-Brunswick.
James apporte une riche expérience de hockey à son nouveau poste. Il etais un sélection de 1re ronde (11e au total) des Tigres de Victoriaville de la Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec, James a joué 3 saisons et demie avec les Wildcats de Moncton où il était capitaine adjoint. Pendant son séjour à Moncton, il a été nommé défenseur de l’année et a conclu sa carrière junior majeur avec le total de points de tous les temps de la franchise pour les défenseurs. James a également joué avec l’équipe des moins de 18 ans de Hockey Canada avant de signer avec les Canadiens de Montréal en 2004.
Il a joué professionnel pendant les 11 saisons suivantes, notamment avec les Bulldogs de Hamilton, les Admirals de Milwaukee et les Wolves de Chicago de la Ligue américaine de hockey.
